Surrey Cricket Club
Surrey Cricket Road show
Byron Primary School 1st October 2010
A successful introduction to cricket fielding, bowling and batting skills for year 4 and 5 pupils was delivered by Surrey Cricket Development Coaches John Fry, Gareth and Stuart who were ably assisted by Caesar, The Surrey Lion mascot. John, Gareth and Stuart delivered two fun filled sessions to years 4 & 5 pupils.
The Children watched a short video of the Surrey players which had examples of the skills they would undertake as part of their coaching session. The children worked in teams to practise fielding, batting and bowling skills, they quickly gained confidence under the guidance of the coaches and their speed and accuracy improved greatly.
In order to add a little challenge they competed against each other to see who was the quickest in the field with their new skills. They worked well in teams and individually.
The children were keen to hear about the chance to take part in an after school club which will start on Monday 11th October.
Following this coaching the children will have an opportunity to use these new skills and abilities to take part in the SSP Kwik cricket events later in the academic year. Hopefully they will continue to practise until they take part
Of course, the highlight of the visit was Caesar the Surrey Lion who enjoyed a photo opportunity with the children.
Many thanks to Surrey Cricket Club, John, Gareth and Stuart for providing this opportunity.
Quotes from the children:
” It was fun, I had to move my arms like a windmill to bowl at the stumps” “Batting was the best part, I hit the ball a long way” “Caesar was good”
