What is a Leadership Academy?
Leadership Academies form part of the Step into Sport (SiS) programme for young people. They are designed to provide high quality regular support, training and development for young people to actively volunteer within their school and/ or community. Pupils will remain members of the Academy for the duration of their time at school and be expected to act as Role models and pass on their knowledge and experience to future and younger members.
Woodcote School Sports Partnership and Coulsdon College of Further Education Leadership Academy.
Woodcote School Sports Partnership in conjunction with Coulsdon College of Further Education launched ‘The Leadership Academy on Thursday 5th March at Coulsdon College.
During May 2009 the Leadership Academy pupils took part in a team building day at the outward bound activity centre Treejumpers, in Kent. The day consisted of theory and practical session relating to Leadership. Pupils were joined in the morning session by Andre Alleyn, England U18 Nation Basketball Coach. Andre talked to the pupils about his volunteering experiences and how his involvement in sport has given him many career and travel opportunities.
In June candidates will take part in a ‘TOPS’ athletic course with a view to delivering an Academy event to a number of our family primary schools later in June.
Aim
Our aim is that these pupils will assist with the launch of the bigger program planned for September 2009 with a view to opening up opportunities to younger pupils at the school. Pupils from Ashburton Community School, Riddlesdown, Thomas Moore, Woodcote, Addington High and Coulsdon College FE are taking part in this pilot phase which we hope to build upon next year.
